In 1738 the Society with the aid of donations from Dame Susanna Holworthy and Captain John Price established a school for the instruction of 20 boys, sons of Bristol seamen or others, in the art of navigation. The school was carried on in the Merchants' Hall and in 1863 was transferred to the Bristol Trade & Mining School.
