  • Founded in 1710 by Edward Colston under a trust or Settlement and managed by the Society in conjunction with nominees the first of whom were appointed by Colston. The Hospital or school was first established in the Great House, St Augustine's Back, Bristol until 1861 when it was moved to Stapleton then in Gloucestershire.
