TitleFive photographs of working model of Theatre Royal and one of first floor of foyer, formerly Coopers' Hall
DescriptionThe 1970-1972 rebuilding of large parts of the theatre involved the comprehensive renovation of the stage area, resulting in the removal of virtually all of the structure and machinery behind the proscenium arch. The Trustees of the Theatre Royal stipulated that a working scale model (1 inch to 1 foot) of the back stage area should be made and this was completed in the early 1980s. The model was made by Roger Baker, under the direction of John Keeling Mags, architect to the Trustees. It shows the stage machinery as it was in the mid-nineteenth century and includes a miniature version of a grave trap, two corner traps and the machinery for flats, as well as the grids and catwalks.
