TitleFinancial records
Date1764 - 1954
DescriptionFinancial records here are split into three groups. The first contains the account books of the Proprietors. These list the incomings - principally rent from the theatre manager - and the outgoings - insurance, city taxes, cost of repairs to the building and the secretary's salary - of the Proprietors. The account books cover the entire period of the Proprietors' ownership of the theatre.
The second group contains weekly balance books, kept during the period when the theatre was in private hands. Unlike the account books, these record income from daily activities such as sales of programmes, chocolates, and bar takings, and outgoings such as utility bills and payments of staff.
The last items in this group are the bar and cloakroom takings books. These are organised by date and performance and thus give some indication as to the relative popularity of productions during the early 1950s.
