Administrative historySIR MICHAEL FOSTER (1689-1763) became Recorder of Bristol 1735, Serjeant at Law 1736, and Judge of the King's Bench 1745. He was one of the founders of the Bristol Royal Infirmary, and drew up its first code of rules. He tried the Ruscombe and Goodere murder cases mentioned herein. The murderer of Mrs. Ruscombe was never found. Sir John Dinely Goodere was kidnapped and murdered by his brother Captain Samuel Goodere, in 1741.
RICHARD SMITH was senior surgeon at the Royal Infirmary 1812-1843. Sir Michael Foster's niece Hannah married the Rev. John Ward.
